Indian girl, 17, forced to give birth on street, filmed moments after
A 17-year-old Indian girl who was abandoned by her parents after getting pregnant, has given birth on a street in Chandil, India, according to local media.
The underage girl gave birth on the side of a busy street in Chandil, a small city in the Indian state Jharkhand in eastern India. Witnesses say she was less than 300 feet from the nearest hospital when she delivered the baby herself.
Bystanders took a video of her hunkered down with her baby just moments after she gave birth on the busy street. The baby is crying wrapped in its mother’s dress while the two are still attached with the umbilical cord.
Local media report that no medical personnel came to help this girl, even though people rushed to the hospital to inform the doctors of what just took place on the street.
Local resident by the name of Om Prakash saw the girl covered in blood, according to Hindustan Times.
“She was in a very bad state. She was shivering and barely able to hold her infant. The traffic was dangerous, but she could not gather the strength to get out of harm’s way,” he said.
“After a while, we decided to divert the traffic around her and informed the local medical center so they will take care of the girl and her baby.”
The locals transported the girl to the medical center where she was given the necessary medical help. Some of the people were very angry with the medical staff at the hospital for doing nothing the first time they were informed of this situation.
Allegedly, the girl lived with her widowed mother and was kicked out of the house after getting pregnant. Soon after that, the father of the child left her after finding out she is pregnant, and so she ended up alone on the street.
