Mind

Here are 10 signs you’re a genius even though you don’t appear to be

What’s your definition of a smart person? Is it someone who learns a lot and is able to deal with new situations quickly? I can imagine why you would think so. However, there’s actually more to intelligence than just that.

I can immediately tell you who’s not intelligent, though. These people are usually the loudest and want to show off their “intelligence” every chance they get. But, truly smart people don’t need to do that. It’s natural for them to live their lives freely without having to draw attention to themselves.

In fact, people smart as a whip are all around you, but you can’t notice them because they’re humble and look and sound quite average until they impart wisdom when you least expect it. As such, here are some signs that a person might be smarter than they let on.

Staying Up Late

According to a recent research, night owls who excel at their work during the night, get higher IQ scores than regular people. Nevertheless, this doesn’t mean that if you stay up late you will magically wire your brain to function faster. It’s just that smarter people prefer to do this at night to soak in as much information as they can through reading, listening to audio files or browsing the Internet.

Keeping Quiet

Even though quiet people are usually labeled as introverts and shy, this doesn’t take away their intellect. While not all quiet people are smart by default, highly intelligent people often refrain from speaking until they’ve assessed the situation. They need some time in order to prepare a suitable response.

Surrounding Oneself With Smart And Creative Minds

Since all of us are looking for people like us, it’s not surprising that these individuals want someone to share their intellect with. On the other hand, they tend to stay away from those who are brash or rude for a very simple reason. They want to be surrounded with people who inspire them to question everything and acquire more knowledge.

Accepting Criticism

There are some people who constantly boast about how good they’re at something. And this classic narcissistic behavior is in direct opposition to how smart people behave. They’re always willing to accept criticism and improve their faults as they believe self-criticism is one way of becoming a better person.

Keeping Up To Date

Intelligent people like to read a lot and gain a better understanding of the world. They tend to keep up with the latest development in lots of different areas, always striving to better themselves. In fact, their lifelong goal is to gather information, learn new things and develop useful skills.

Striving For Perfection

Intelligent individuals strive for perfection in all aspects of life, so each time you meet them, you will be able to see a few refinements and improvements. This is a never-ending process with them which takes them one step further on their quest for self-improvement.

Enjoying Multi-Tasking

A good tell-tale sign that you are dealing with a smart person is the fact that they’re always working on several projects at the same time. They have an unquenchable thirst for knowledge which ranges from learning new languages and phrases to reading DIY home repairs or cooking new recipes.

Being More Empathic

According to a research on the correlation between emotional intelligence and IQ, these two are inextricably intertwined. So, those who are truly compassionate and conscientious are probably highly intelligent empathic individuals.

 Adapting Easily

Many psychologists believe that a sign of true intelligence is when you do whatever needs to be done to make it work, even when you don’t like it. Thus, the ability to use your brain to adapt to new situations and to learn from change is what makes you smart.

Being Humble

Smart people are the opposite of those who think they’re God’s gift to humanity. Due to something called the Dunning-Kruger effect, people with a low level of competence overestimate their abilities, while highly competent people remain humble and try to push their intelligence away.
